SUNY College at Alfred - Satellite Boilers

Nestled in the hills of Allegany County,  New York, Alfred State College is one of the eight Colleges of Technology within the State University of New York (SUNY) system. Established in 1908, Alfred State has grown from three buildings to a campus of 13 residence halls, classrooms, an activity center, a dining hall, a townhouse complex, and various other buildings. To ensure that the most up to date facilities are available to students, staff, and the public, Alfred State College continues to expand and improve the campus.

The satellite boiler project consisted of the installation of satellite boilers in several buildings located on the campus. The buildings were provided with standalone boiler systems and were separated from the central high temperature hot water system which has been decommissioned. In addition, standalone domestic hot water systems were provided.

Over the course of three phases, Sienna provided asbestos, lead-based paint, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) inspection , and abatement design services. In addition to these services, Sienna also performed project monitoring, oversight, and air sampling throughout the abatement process. Air samples were collected by a NYS-certified technician and analyzed at Sienna's in-house laboratory.

Sienna provided the following scope of work for this project:

  • Hazardous Materials Inspections for Asbestos, Lead-Based Paint, & Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
  • Project Monitoring, Oversight, & Air Sampling
  • Laboratory Analysis
  • Abatement Design & Construction Administration
