SUNY Erie Community College - Ellicott Street Building Elevator Modernization

The State University of New York Erie Community Colleges’ (ECC) downtown Buffalo campus consists of three structures, including the Ellicott Street Building which is also known as the “Old Post Office Building”. It was originally constructed in 1897 and was renovated in 1981 for reuse by ECC. The granite building with its hand carved gargoyles, pinnacles, finials, animal heads and eagles is listed on the National Registry for Historic Places.

The three passenger elevators serving the Old Post Office Building have had control upgrades in the past, but have exceeded their designed life expectancy and become unreliable for the campus. The Modernization Project upgraded the three elevators to meet current code and provide safe, reliable, and energy efficient elevators.
